Kīngitanga popularity grows among youth

Following the speech of King Tūheitia's son, Whatumoana, at this year's Coronation celebration, an influx of Māori youth have taken a huge interest in the King Movement, and that was clearly evident at Kīngitanga Day at Waikato University.

The second Māori King, King Tāwhiao believed through unity his people survive, Waikato University plays a key role in connecting with the Kīngitanga movement that stems deep, reaffirming their connection every year with Kīngitanga Day.

Organisers of the event say there has been a distinct rise of interest in the event and some have put it down to the youthful voice of Whatumoana Paki heard at the Koroneihana this year.
