Kora set to release new music for 2016

Kora is one of the heavyweights in the New Zealand music scene, and is set to release new music this year, but they say they're taking it back to their roots and returning to their heavy blues rock funk style.

Kora have been at the top of their game for more than a decade.  The headline act at many major summer festivals; they believe the magic for them is performing live.

Francis Kora says, "For me, the power's always been in the live shows for the boys, studio's always been quite daunting and something a little bit different.  It just takes a lot more time and energy and pūtea to get it going but as long as the live shows still have a lot of energy and power."

A family band known for their heavy rock flavour and electronics, they're releasing new music singles throughout the year.

Francis says, "You experiment, you try new things and all that kind of stuff, but I think this song we've actually gone back to the heavier blues rock funk style that we're accustomed to and it will be interesting to see how it's received."

But the boys aren't putting any pressure on themselves when it comes to creating new music.

"The last album before was like a five-year gap, it's just life really.  Everyone's got families and we all got different solo projects and it's always a tricky thing to get together.  We like to enjoy life as well outside of this," explains Francis.

They're showing no signs of slowing down as they continue to tour the New Zealand summer circuit.
