Labour increases Māori faces on party list

Tamati Coffey features at number 30 on the Labour list. Meanwhile there are only two Māori in the top 15 and Kelvin Davis has nudged ahead of current MP, Meka Whaitiri.

According to Nanaia Mahuta, “The executive committee believe in the caucus rankings which is why Kelvin has placed ahead of Meka.”

One current Māori MP who doesn't feature on the list is Rino Tirikatene, saying he'll leave it to voters to decide whether or not he returns.

Furthermore, none of the other Māori seat candidates including Adrian Rurawhe, Rawiri Waititi and Peeni Henare feature on the list as well.

The power is now in the hands of voters as to who will be back walking Parliament's corridors.
