Legal challenge to Tauranga state house sell-off

A High Court legal challenge is being prepared to halt the government’s plans to sell state houses in Tauranga.

State Housing Action Incorporated was registered as an incorporated society last week and will become the plaintiff in the planned judicial review.

Tauranga housing activist and SHA Inc. secretary Vanessa Kururangi says she is utterly appalled at the government’s intention to pursue the sale of state housing when there is a housing crisis for families on low incomes.

”It’s an unconscionable decision driven by blind ideology,” she says.

Kururangi says the legal action became urgent when the government announced last Friday its preferred buyer of the houses is the IHC – through their company Accessible Housing.
