Lomu left proud mark on Wainuiomata Rugby Club

Jonah Lomu's brief time playing for Wainuiomata was a major highlight for the club after he once attracted over 4000 people to a rugby game.

Wellington rugby commentator and friend Ken Laban says despite his super stardom, Lomu always made time for their community.

Laban says, “I had the pleasure many times when he was here, he would do school and community visits here in Wainui, he always had time for kids, always had time for families.”

Tributes have been flowing for the rugby great online. Laban says he was with NZRU Head, Steve Tew and Ma'a Nonu when he heard the news.

Lomu played 21 matches for the Lions, 29 for the Hurricanes and though Wainuiomata has seen some greats, Laban says not one will match Lomu.
