Rugby great Jonah Lomu has passed away aged 40. Former All Blacks doctor John Mayhew confirmed that Lomu died unexpectedly this morning.
Jonah Lomu and his family arrived in Auckland last night from their Rugby World Cup trip. This morning at approximately 8am, he passed away at his home in Auckland.
His passing has not only sent shockwaves through rugby communities but across the world.
The soft-spoken boy from South Auckland who attended Wesley College rocketed onto the rugby scene as a number 8 in 1993. A year later, he became the youngest All Black ever at 19 years old.
He debuted against France in 1994. Lomu's career spanned 63 tests and 73 games in the black jersey, managing 37 tries in total.
Lomu’s legacy will continue to remain through his wife, Nadene and their sons Brayley and Dhyreille.
