Warriors’ hooker Isaac Luke is disappointed with his performance this season, telling media today that he doesn’t deserve to be named in the Kiwi test team this weekend on Sunday for the upcoming Trans-Tasman Test, May 6th clash in Newcastle.
Luke says, “To be perfectly honest if I was Steve (Stephen) Kearney I would probably leave me out.”
The 2008 World Cup winner, Kiwi veteran player first made his debut for New Zealand in 2008 and has gone on to make 36 appearances. Last year he was named as co-captain for the tour to Great Britain.
“I am not happy with my performance. I have been up and down all season in the last seven games. It will hurt but I’d rather him have a comfortable team that he is looking forward to taking on the Aussies” says, Luke.
The Warriors put in their worst performance this season the weekend, with a humiliating loss to the Melbourne Storm 42-0 in their NRL Anzac day clash.
Luke says, “The harder we went the faster we fell. It’s a bit like quicksand, the harder you fight, the faster you sink.”
The former South Sydney Rabbitohs player is nearing his 200th NRL appearance, he has played 196 to date, seven for the Warriors this year but will accept being dropped to the NSW Cup if Warriors head coach Andrew McFadden believes this is best for the team.
Luke says, “Whatever he goes with I am happy with. If it means but hopefully I don’t, but if it means I go back to the NSW Cup or to the bench I will go back there.”
Earlier in the week Coach McFadden named his side against the visiting Dragons, who edge out the Roosters in their Anzac Day win 20-18 at Allianz Stadium the weekend. Talk is more changes are expected to be made.
“In life you have to go backwards to go forward as well, I have had that every year since Michael Maguire was at Souths and I have managed to react pretty well,” says Luke.
Luke believes individual players including himself needs to be accountable for the weekend’s poor showing, something they won’t want to repeat for Sunday’s ninth-round clash against St George Illawarra at Mount Smart Stadium.
