Man seriously injured in 40 metre cliff fall

A man was seriously injured in a 40-metre fall down a cliff in Queenstown early Sunday morning.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident near the Shotover River about 12.25am after a witness saw the man fall.

The man was rescued about 3.30am and transferred to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter.

Police are investigating the cause of the fall.
