Manurewa community works to restore waterways

A joint effort is under way by Auckland Council, local board, Manurewa Marae and family and friends who pitched in to help remove mangrove trees from the Puhinui stream, in the hope of realising a dream, to have a waterway for swimming and recreational water activities for the whole community.

Damon Heke says, “Primarily to return the area to its original state. That's the hope of the marae and the whole Manurewa community.”

The project saw the Manurewa community getting behind the Auckland Council to help physically, as families give their contribution towards a vision.

It's a waterway for all kinds of water sports for the community in the future, and that's what they're working towards today.
