Māori brothers remain steadfast despite burglary

Brothers Waireka and Rowe Te Meihana aren't letting a burglary get in the way of their musical aspirations.

Late last year, all their instruments were stolen from their Hastings home, so they've decided to perform their first gig tomorrow night to raise funds to get some new gear.

Waireka says, “It was pretty difficult because my sister had cancer then and we kinda used our music to help us cope with our adversity.”

Their sister made a full recovery and their journey through adversity has seen them receive some much needed help along the way.

“A couple friends realised that they don't use their music stuff and so they donated to us which is very nice of them,” says Rowe.

In hope to rebuild what was lost, the brothers will be performing covers from their favourite artist’s tomorrow night at Clearview Estate Winery in Hastings from 7pm.
