Māori law graduates sworn in today in te reo

Five recent law graduates were sworn in at Wellington's High Court today.

It’s a huge achievement for the new lawyers after putting in years of hard work.  It was a blessing to have their admission ceremony conducted in Te Reo Māori.

Justice Joe Williams says it was great to see the Māori language included in such an age-old tradition of the court.

“It's no problem for me, in fact, it makes things easier. If the Māori language and culture are included in such proceedings, things would run a lot more smoothly.”

Hopefully, we will hear more Te Reo Māori incorporated in court proceedings in years to come.
