Māori men compete in Kabaddi event

A team of Māori men took to the Kabaddi field at the Punjab Sports Tournament in Takānini on Sunday.

According to Tara Singh Bains, “The first time our Māori boys participating in this tournament, it's a big sport for Māori culture and Māori TV who has come here today.”

Participant Aaron Hikaka believes, “Hopefully we can take this all over the countryside and start picking up more Maori's, and Kiwi's, anybody, come play!”

After a slow start the momentum and the determination picked up. True to their name, Tū Tama, they certainly rose to the occasion.

More Māori are keen to play this traditional Punjab sport.
