Māori music amplifies charity awareness

WAIATA is an event which showcases Māori music and performing arts over two nights to fundraise for the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre.

The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre was established by Māori singer and songwriter Hinewehi Mohi to help people with a wide range of special needs, including those needing support with physical, intellectual, behavioural, developmental, and emotional issues.

Multiple New Zealand artists and some of the top haka groups in the country have thrown their support behind the cause, volunteering to be a part of the WAIATA events.

On Friday 29 May, performances will include haka groups such as Te Waka Huia, Ngā Puna o Waiorea, Ngā Tapuwae, Ngā Tūmanako, Hoani Waititi and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui.

On Saturday 30 May, Maisey Rika, Tama Waipara, Moana & the Tribe, Tina Cross, WAI, Rob Ruha, Anna Coddington, Ardijah and Smashproof will be performing as well.

The live shows are also being recorded as a part of an on screen series for Māori Television which will air later this year.

To attend the final two shows at the Vodafone Event Centre, purchase your tickets here through TicketDirect.
