The United Hockey Indoor Tournament was held in Rotorua in the weekend and has seen over 80 teams compete. Yesterday, the finals were held across all grades.
The game is hard and a key requirement is a high level of fitness.
The United Hockey Indoor Tournament began on Friday and is a breeding ground for hot talent.
Local Māori family, Mitai-Wells has supported it for the last 20 years. Owen Mitai-Wells' younger brother, Leo, recently became a member of the Black Sticks and this weekend the brothers returned home to play.
Owen says, "My brother is in the New Zealand Black Sticks and they played last weekend against Australia, he's one of the stars."
Eighty one teams have battled it out in the tournament with over 145 games played throughout the past three days.
Māori hockey player, Bevan Taylor says, "We are players from Rotorua, so this is really amazing because we can play indoors."
With 50 years under their belt, organisers look forward to another 50 years.
