Māori Rugby League Finals

The depth, quality and selection of Tāmaki’s players saw the team win the title with a 25 point lead.

Both teams laid out serious and impressive challenges with their haka prior to the game and while Maniapoto dominated possession in the first half they continuously fell short of what they needed.  As a result Tāmaki got a taste of what they could do and took the ball over the line for the first try of the game.

The Auckland side was propped up by some well rounded experienced players which included Wairangi Koopu.

Opening up a major run to get a score also was fullback Steven Waetford and just 2 minutes later his team followed up with yet another try.

Despite the bad weather, Tāmaki continued dotting down tries over and over in the right corner to make it four tries to nil.

Maniapoto made a come back in the second half with its first main break of the game scoring a try but Auckland proved to savvy for its opponents winning the game 30- 4.
