Māori Television's former CEO has been welcomed to his new home at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, in Te Awamutu.

Jim Mather was officially welcomed today, surrounded by his Ngāti Awa and Mātaatua kin who were party to the ceremony of handing over their treasured son to become the wānanga's new leader.

The challenge has been laid, and the new CEO of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWOA) is ready to take up his new position.

Rongo Wetere was the first CEO and founder of TWOA, followed by Bentham Ohia, also known as Te Pouhere, who provided inspirational leadership for seven years.

Today, a new status was bestowed upon Jim Mather by the caretakers of TWOA.

TWOA's council say they are pleased to welcome Mr Mather into the role, with his experience and track record.

TWOA's chairman says their new leader will now come up with a 90-day plan about how TWOA will progress into the future.
