Māori war vet has pension reinstated

Maori war veteran Selwyn Clarke is calling on donations to stop after his pension has been restored and the warrant for his arrest has been dropped.

The Ngāti Kahu kaumātua was arrested for trespass following a protest at Kaitaia Airport late last year, his veteran's pension and disability allowance was suspended in November after he failed to appear in court following his arrest.

Mr Clarke was reduced to begging at the Kaitaia market to make ends meet.  A charitable account was set up last month for support, which he has now asked to end.
