Masses flee after explosion at airport in Belgium

Unconfirmed reports say at least 17 people have died and many are injured after two explosions went off at the Brussels airport in Belgium, shortly before 8am (8:00pm NZ), Tuesday 22 March 2016.

It’s alleged one explosion went off in the ‘Zanventem’s great hall’ and the other near an American Airlines check-in desk.

The airport has gone into lock down, with all flights cancelled and incoming traffic restricted.

International News organisations are reporting that a suspect from the Paris Terror Attacks in November last year, was arrested at the Brussels airport, just 4 days ago.

The New Zealand Embassy in Brussels is currently seeking information on the nationalities of victims and casualties from two explosions at the airport in Brussels, and is liaising with local authorities.

There is currently no confirmed information on nationalities of victims.

There are 60 New Zealanders registered on SafeTravel as being in Belgium.
