Meehan takes out inaugural Super 8 title with $200k purse

Fijian-Kiwi Kali 'Mean Hands' Meehan has won the inaugural Super 8 Heavyweight Title Belt, and a $200k purse at Waitākere's Trusts Stadium in Auckland.

After making it through the elimination fight against Hunter Sam (AUS), and then defeating Brice Ritani-Coe in the semi, Meehan fought English fighter Michael Sprott in the final to become the 'Last Man Standing'.

Meehan also collected an additional $15,000 for the first round knockout.

The heavyweight line-up also included top seed US boxer Hasim 'The Rock' Rahman, US wildcard Alonzo 'Big Zo' Butler, Irishman Martin 'The Entertainer' Rogan, Aussie wildcard Hunter 'The Bounty Hunter' Sam, and NZ wildcards Brice Ritani-Coe and Antz 'Notorious' Nansen.

The event was an overall success, with most of the Kiwi fighters winning their bouts throughout the night.

The upset of the night went to Kiwi outsider, Antz Nansen, who beat former world heavyweight champion, Hasim Rahman.
