Tauranga Māori Trust Board offers building to homeless

Hei tā Dahm, “My babies want a place that they want to call home.”

Hei tā Pikiteora Whanau-Russell (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Nga Rauru), “It's not about (saying) you need parenting, you need budgeting, you need this, you need that.  It's about asking the question: what is it that you want to do?”

E whā ngā whānau ka ū ki konei i te wā kotahi. I tēnei wā e rua ngā whānau kua pae mai, tokorima ngā tamariki tō ia whānau, ā, kei raro rātou i ngā manaakitanga o Pikiteora Whanau-Russell.

E ai ki a Whānau-Russell, “There's this thinking that says that people just need a house.  No, it's not about that.  You know, people are where they are because there are other things that need to be done and that's what Whare Tauranga provides.”

He ngākau manaaki kei a Pikiteora, engari he tikanga whakahaere tō tēnei whare.  Me noho tarukino, waipiro kore ngā whānau, ā, me whakawhirinaki atu ki ngā ratonga toko i te ora.

Hei tā Rangi Ahipene (Ngāti Tūwharetoa), “Kāore he utu ma te noho mo ngā whānau, ā, ahakoa ka tuku mai ko ia whānau he moni ma he kai, ā, koina noa iho.”
