Mixed opinions on Northland's forestry and agricultural developments

Yesterday the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee hearing took place, and Finance Minister, Bill English reported back to the committee about the development of the forestry and agricultural industries in the Northland region.

MP English highlighted how people and businesses in the region interacted with Government initiatives within the years.

Far North Labour spokesman, Shane Jones says English was actually saying that the people within his community lacked aspiration.

Chairman of Ngāti Hine Forestry Trust, Pita Tipene, says the Deputy Prime Minister needs to consult with other National MPs who have been active within Northland to develop the agricultural and forestry sector.

He also says that English should help revive the forestry and agricultural sectors in the North.

A Labour meeting with a forestry and agricultural group of Northland is scheduled next week to help develop better policies within the sector at Waitangi.
