Most councils have struggled to provide clean drinking water – Bayden Barber

An advisor to the Local Government New Zealand national council says local bodies have struggled to provide clean water.

The coalition government's just-announced investment of $761 million will help councils upgrade their water treatment and stormwater facilities.

Bayden Barber, vice-chair of Te Maruata, a LGNZ national council committee, says the coalition had little choice but to fund this upgrade as most councils had struggled to keep up with water infrastructure replacement.
