Munster honour late coach with win against Māori All Blacks

Ireland have prevailed once again on the rugby field as a provincial club team, Munster, dealt the Māori All Blacks a heavy hand this morning in Limerick, winning by 13 points.

A tribute to the late Anthony Foley, Munster Head Coach who passed last month, ahead of the game.

Pressure from both sides in the first ten minutes. Eventually, a penalty to the Māori All Blacks gave Munster the opportunity to crash over the line first.

James Lowe came back to equalize for the Māori in the 24th minute, and a clear conversion by Other Black to put them men in black in front.

Superb offloading skills only minutes later saw Māori debutant, Ambrose Curtis, land his first try for the team. Black adding another clear conversion to top it off.

Munster came back to narrow the margins with a penalty try, but it was handling errors that allowed them to take the lead before half time, Darren Sweetnam earning the try of the night. 17-14 to Munster.

Another penalty to the Māori three minutes into the second half, but given the chance to come back errors let them down again. Munster lifting their game to disallow any breakthroughs.

Roran O'Mahony had the last say for Munster. With only ten minutes left on the clock, it was clear the Māori side needed a miracle if they were going to close the gap. The only thing they could do was stop the provincial team from scoring anymore. Final score 27-14 to Munster.

The Māori All Blacks face off against the Harlequins this Thursday in London.
