Police have confirmed that the 24-year-old man who was previously charged with the assault of a child, is now also facing a murder charge.
The five-year-old child, Ferro-James Tiopira Sio, died at Rotorua Hospital on February 8.
A 28-year-old woman has been charged with ill-treatment/neglect of a child, both are due to appear in Rotorua District Court on February 27.
