Naida Glavish supports proposed Māori language structure, Te Mātāwai

A Ngāti Whātua leader, Naida Glavish, says she fully supports Māori Party leader Pita Sharples' move to have iwi run Māori language and broadcasting funding.

However some reo experts are not yet convinced this is the best way forward.

Following the announcement of the new proposed Māori language structure by Pita Sharples, Ngāti Whātua are one hundred per cent behind it.

Professor Timoti Karetu has publicly disagreed with the new Te Mātāwai system, and others find more gaps in the module.

Naida Glavish says it’s an issue individuals must take up with their own iwi.

Once the meeting in Tūrangawaewae at the end of the week is over, it is hoped more light will be shed on the proposed Language strategy.
