NATIVE AFFAIRS AWARD NOMINEES

Māori Television is pleased to congratulate members of our Native Affairs team who have been nominated for national awards.

Reporter Iulia Leilua, Ngāti Hāua, Ngāti Hekeāwai and Samoan, has been nominated for Best Pacific Female Media Personality.

Story Producer Aroha Awarau, Ngāti Maru, Ngāti Porou and Niuean is a finalist for the Magazine Journalist of the Year, Lifestyle.

Iulia has been filing for Native Affairs since 2009 and is committed to Māori Television’s current affairs as well as Pacific Radio News.   She has been nominated by the Pacific Island Media Association which recognises those who are the best at what they do.

Aroha Awarau joined Native Affairs this year with an impressive background in general and investigative reporting.  He has won Magazine Journalist of the Year twice, in 2008 and 2013.

His nomination at this year’s NZ Magazine Media Awards is for an exclusive with the parents of Scott Guy, a personal account with Sir Richard Hadlee and a story into historical sexual abuse within the Catholic Church.

Māori Television’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Maramena Roderick, said the Native Affairs team was rapt for their colleagues.

“Native Affairs has been through an important rebuild and its showing in the number of exclusives and stories they have broken this year.  Iulia and Aroha are integral to that and we are proud of them and the entire team every day,” she said.

Māori Television wishes all finalists the best in their categories.

Native Affairs, Tuesdays at 8.00pm on Māori Television.
