Native Affairs - Justice Panel Discussion

The Native Affairs finale for 2013 now turns to discuss the issue of Justice with the political panel.

Earlier this year we reported on the case of Corporal Doug Hughes who committed suicide after his superior forced him to admit his feelings towards a fellow male soldier.

The New Zealand Defence Forces enquiry into his death cleared themselves of any blame but identified Dougs sexuality and his unstable family background as contributing to his death.

His families request for an Independent Coronial Inquiry was declined last month.

Then last week Native Affairs broadcast the story of former Māori Party candidate and trainee paramedic Timothy Morrisson who was found not guilty on a highly questionable charge of manslaughter. Despite successfully defending the charge, Timothy is now expected to pay an 8 thousand dollar legal aid bill that will start to accrue interest in March.
