Native Affairs - Kōwhiri 14, Tāmaki Makaurau Part 1

Tonight on Native Affairs the four leading candidates in Tāmaki Makaurau go head-to-head and we reveal the results of our Māori Television Reid Research Poll.

24% of all Māori call the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate home, with over 34,000 registered on the Māori roll at the last election.  However turnout here is low and just 55% voted in 2011.

Contesting Tāmaki Makaurau this election are from the MANA Movement Kereama Pene, representing Labour Peeni Henare, from the Greens Marama Davidson and representing the Māori Party, Tunuiarangi McLean.

Native Affair’s reporter Ruwani Perera set out to negotiate the infamous Auckland traffic to talk to the westies of Tāmaki Makaurau.

After speaking with the voters she asked what ideas candidates have to close the gap between rich and poor?
