Native Affairs - Kōwhiri 14, Tāmaki Makaurau Part 4

The Native Affair’s Kōwhiri 14 Māori Electorate debate special continues and the Tāmaki Makaurau candidates are facing off in studio with Mihingarangi Forbes.

The four leading candidates competing for the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate vote are Peeni Henare of the Labour Party, Kereama Pene of the MANA Movement, Marama Davidson of the Greens and Tunuiarangi Mclean for the Māori Party.

Tāmaki Makaurau has the highest number of young Māori enrolled to vote in the motu, so our reporter Ruwani Perera called in to Auckland University to find out whats on their minds.

What issues were most important to the voters in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate?

Te Reo Māori and the Cost of Living both received 91% of the vote and Child Poverty sits at 92%.

The second most important issue for voters in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate was education which received 94%, while the most important issue highlighted was Family Violence which came to 95%.

Māori unemployment received 88% and Housing was close behind with 87%, Māori Leadership was at 81% while Mining was ranked most important by just 61% of poll participants.
