Native Affairs - Prime Predator

Pamapuria is a small isolated Māori settlement just south of Kaitaia where kapa haka kings and queens were being groomed to take home trophies.

James Robertson Parker was Pamapuria Primary School's deputy principal who used the ultimate form of Māori artistic expression to prey on young boys for more than a decade.

How did he get away with it for so long?  How did he infiltrate whānau and friends only to sexually abuse their children?  And most importantly, how does a community recover from such devastation?

We tell this story as a warning to other communities, in the hope that they might avoid the hard-learned lessons of Pamapuria.

Jodi Ihaka went to the Far North where she talked to the wāhine who are trying to reclaim their culture, their boys and their young men.
