It's one of Aotearoa's oldest art forms, but also one which isn't well known.
Throughout the motu, drawings adorn shelters and caves, hand-drawn by Māori from around the 10th century.
While rock art exists throughout both islands, in the south Ngāi Tahu have a dedicated programme which to date has uncovered around 600 cave sites.
The drawings offer a significant insight into what life was like in ancient Aotearoa.
