Native Affairs - A Sovereign Nation Part 2

French Polynesian politics has been dominated in the past decade by two main players - Gaston Flosse, the newly elected President who supports autonomy under French rule and Oscar Temaru, Tahiti's pro-independence leader.

President Flosse won the elections by a landslide in May despite a raft of criminal convictions for corruption and money laundering. He is appealing two prison sentences handed to him earlier this year as well as charges of spying on politicians and his mistresses.

This week, Flosse will fly to the Pacific Leaders Forum in the Marshall Islands. As Iulia Leilua reports, the French loyalist will try to discredit Temaru's independence campaign.
