In March last year, the East Coast of Aotearoa took a hammering as Cyclone Pam rampaged across the Pacific. But, it was over confidence on the water, not the bad weather, that created waves in the East Coast settlement of Mahia.

The loss of two lives, in two separate incidences, forced locals to reflect on their attitude towards Tangaroa. Renee Kahukura Iosefa brought us this story.
