Native Affairs - Te Rōpū Taurima - Studio Panel

Last week, Native Affairs brought you their investigation into Te Rōpū Taurima, a Māori organisation that provides care to the intellectual disabled and the mentally ill.

You'll remember that two whistle blowers from the Trust, Tony Tietie and Annie Du were dismissed for raising concerns with management about alleged misspending.

As a result of their allegations, the Serious Fraud Office is now investigating the trust and the Ministry Of Health has sent in forensic auditors.

But so far no one from the ministry has made contact with the Tietie and Du who are now jobless and facing a court battle to get their jobs back.

This despite the trust having a policy that protects 'whistle-blowers'.

Last week, the pair wrote to the Minister of Health, Tony Ryall, asking for his assistance, he forwarded the letter on to Minister Tariana Turia.

Turia's office replied that due to the large amount of correspondence they receive, it would be some weeks before Tony and Annie would receive a reply.

To discuss their situation, Mihingarangi Forbes joined by Richard Wagstaff from the Public Service Association and Te Rōpū Taurima's former senior accounts manager Annie Du.
