Native Affairs - Trustworthy? - Part 1

Two weeks ago we broadcast an investigation into allegations of misspending and mismanagement at Te Rōpū Taurima Trust.

Te Rōpū Taurima is the only Māori organisation providing care for the mentally disabled and ill. They have 432 clients, called "mokopuna" spread across four regions. Since that story went to air others have come forward with their own stories.

Tonight we hear from a second whistle blower;

Annie Du worked at the coal face of the trust's accounts department. She was fired after raising concerns about expenditure and practice.

Her husband, Shane is a former board member and in our first story spoke out in support of another sacked whistle blower Tony Tietie.

First we start with a kuia who once worked at the trust.

Deacon Kuini Matene had been feeling betrayed and whakamā about her own experience involving the trust's asset manager Saul Roberts and when she learnt of the allegations swirling around the trust she decided to step forward and tell her own story.

Native Affairs with this special report.
