Native Affairs - TV Star dishes up a new recipe

Former My Kitchen Rules reality TV star Paul Rangiwahia has ditched the spatula for a paint brush, cooking up success in the art world.

Earlier this year, Mr. Rangiwahia (Ngāti Ruanui) was an MKR contestant in “The Blokes” pair with rugby pal Laurence Corlett. After filming, the father-of-two left his job at a New Plymouth ventilation firm to become a full-time artist.

“When I look at Māori culture, I see beauty and strength. I’m blessed to have Māori blood in my veins. I want to show that in my artwork.”

This week Mr. Rangiwahia opened his new exhibition in the Allpress Gallery in Auckland. The collection of paintings showcases Māori artifacts such as taiaha and patu.

The TV chef says food and art are the perfect ingredients for a happy life.

“Food is another creative outlet. It helps you to lose yourself.”
