Tūhoe are now among 65 iwi throughout Aotearoa to have settled its historical Treaty of Waitangi claim with the Crown.

However some iwi and hapū believe they've been disenfranchised by the settlement process, as the crown steams ahead to realise its policy of settling all historical treaty claims by 2016.

With the deadline looming many smaller claimant groups say their customary interests are being overlooked in favour of large natural groupings.

Renee Kahukura-Iosefa headed to the Bay of Plenty to meet with two iwi who say they'll lose their mana whenua in the Tūhoe settlement.
