Netball stalwart Helen Dodge remembered

The netball community is mourning the loss of stalwart Helen Dodge (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou) who passed away aged 55 years-old.

Harbourside Netball Chief Executive Dodge spent her life dedicated to the sport and her community.

A first in NZ regional netball, tournaments across Tauranga and Bay of Plenty were cancelled over the week to honour the local.

Tonight the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic will also pay tribute to their former board member, with black arms bands in their match against the Mainland Tactix in Hamilton.

Southern Steel coach Noeline Taurua says, ““With Helen there's always been a contribution to Māori communities and Māori netball players and other ethnic groups as well.  So (Helen is) a person who is going to be sorely missed not only in the netball circles but also in the community and her contribution has been huge over the years.”
