New comedy "Find Me a Māori Bride" lines up star-studded Kiwi cast

A star-studded cast of Kiwi actors have been lined up for the new comedy "Find Me a Māori Bride" which premieres soon on Māori Television.

First cousins Tama Bradley (Cohen Holloway) and George Alpert (Matariki Whatarau) are given a crash course in Māori culture after their late grandmother leaves them an ultimatum to succeed to her estate.

The duo have to find a Māori bride within six months or lose out on inheriting the family farm worth $47 million.

Their lawyer John Mikaere (Te Kohe Tuhaka), explains that the farm will be sold if they fail to find a bride.  The conditions include being followed by a Māori film crew.

Producers Kerry Warkia and Kiel McNaughton from Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions say making the series was a joy, a challenge and an education, “Our first foray into creating original content for Māori Television has allowed us to go on a similar journey into Māoritanga as our two lead characters.  We hope the show not only entertains but also opens our minds to the avenues in which to further our understanding of te reo Māori.”

Other Kiwi actresses on the show include Siobhan Marshall and Amanda Billing, and it is narrated by Jennifer Ward-Lealand.

Find Me a Māori Bride premieres on Friday May 22 at 8pm.
