New location as Pasifika Festival celebrates 23rd birthday

The Pasifika Festival is celebrating its 23rd birthday at a new home this year in South Auckland, after the Queensland fruit fly emerged forcing it out of its regular venue at Western Springs.

The Labour Party were also in the mix capitalising on the 11 stages hoping to maintain and pick up more support from the Pacific community.

According to Nanaia Mahuta, “We've seen the strength and unity of our relatives from the Pacific Islands and we celebrate and support them as well, but NZ should know, this country isn't just for Māori and Pākehā.”

About 1000 performers had taken to the stage which included, Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Kiribati, Fiji, Niue, Tahiti, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Aotearoa and Hawaii.

Pasifika continues tomorrow.
