New social housing project launched

To help families struggling to purchase their first home, the Govt and the Auckland City Council have announced a $102mil social housing development in South Auckland, and the hope is that Māori families will fill some of these homes.

Lots of land, ready to be developed.

First home buyers would be given preference for the 113 houses which will go directly to the private market with an expected price range between $325,000 and $475,000.

The Mayor and the Minister of Housing say the prices are very reasonable.  Local Māori also hope Māori families will have a place here.

Nearly 300 homes will be built on this 15.5ha plus block but the question is, how sound will those homes be?

While there's nothing here right now, by winter next year the first lot of homes will be ready.
