New technology boosts Kiwi bird recovery

These kiwi chicks epitomise the Whangarei Bird Recovery Centre's philosophy.

The recent donation of a surgical unit, complete with anaesthetising gear and incubator, means the Whangarei Bird Recovery Centre can now provide services, that until recently were referred on to Auckland.

Since August, the centre has hatched 10 kiwi chicks from eggs brought in by forestry companies and the general public.  Robert says it's a good sign that public awareness on the plight of native birds has increased.

These kiwi chicks will now have a better chance of survival.
