New video clip showcases moko kauae

In the past, traditional chin moko were reserved mainly for elderly women, but a group of Māori women is bringing new life to this ancient tradition.

Their new music video, 'Te Orokohanga', showcases 14 women from around the country with moko kauae, who wear their moko with pride for all to see.

The video's director, Jos Wheeler, believes they've made history with this project.

He says, “It’s not just going to be something for now, it’s going to be something that historically down the track still has relevance”.

Dr Manulani Meyer from Hawai'i is a lecturer of indigenous studies at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, and she's overwhelmed by the story behind the song.
