Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga launches new website

A new Māori research website could play a vital role in helping shape government policy in the future.

Māori research center, Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga launched its website, He Hononga Pukenga today, which brings together Māori researchers from around the country.

At the click of a button, users are welcomed into the world of Māori research.

Some of Māoridoms top researchers gathered in Wellington to launch the website, He Hononga Pukenga.

Minister of Māori Development, Te Ururoa Flavell says the resource could contribute hugely to policy makers here in the Capital.

"This resource will have information regarding many aspects of Te Ao Māori. They can go there and see what is on offer from those researchers"

There are currently 250 Māori researchers on the website and the Director of Research of Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga, Dan Hikuroa says iwi may also benefit from this resource.

"We hope to build it as big as we can get it. We have around 800 Māori with a PHD or doing a PHD and we would hope they would register as well as those other Māori researchers that have graduated and already doing work."

With issues like water rights and the Māori language bill under the microscope of the Minister, this resource could provide greater understanding in the future.
