Ngā Ruahine descendant Kimberly Hikaka has won a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) award.
The UK TV mini-series, The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, recently won the Best Television Mini Series for 2015, including two other BAFTAs for Lead Actor and Photography & Lighting. Hikaka is the co-producer for The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies.
Hikaka says the story (of Christopher Jefferies) was one worth telling, “I have always loved stories that challenge us to think about who we are and how we behave - social commentary, if you will. That's why The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies particularly appealed to me.”
Before working in the UK, Hikaka studied Screen Production at the University of Auckland.
Since graduating, she has worked on a number of known television movies and series, including Downtown Abbey.
Hikaka was unable to attend the awards as she is currently in Malawi doing humanitarian work, saying, "I was delighted at the news and lovely emails received."
She plans to return to London in the next few months.
