Ngāpuhi extends its reach to the world

Thousands flocked to Kaikohe today.

According to Te Rūnanganui o Ngāpuhi chair, Sonny Tau, “The Ngāpuhi Festival is all about Ngāpuhi reaching out to the world.  Many have flocked here today to support Ngāpuhi, but to also see what Ngāpuhi is all about.”

Mr Tau believes it's a time to put political agendas aside so that the entire tribe can come together as one.

“Today is about leaving politics behind, and letting Ngāpuhi be happy with one another.  In due time, those discussions will come to the fore.”

The two-day event boasts stage performances, stalls, art exhibitions and a series of wānanga amongst its many attractions.

The festival's theme is said to be about the heart of Ngāpuhi, reaching out to the world with the thought of collaborative advancement.
