"The role of Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi is to provide hospitality at the welcoming and closing ceremonies for 3000 plus kapa haka fanatics and their supporters from all around the world and more importantly help our 65,000 members to enjoy this uplifting and memorable event,” Tomoana says.

A hui-a-iwi will be planned within the coming months to update members on how they can participate, volunteer, provide services and enjoy the event.

Te Matatini 2017 will be held on February 22-25 at the Hawkes Bay Sports Park in Hastings.
