Ngāti Porou Pā Wars

The earth shook in Tokomaru Bay as many marae from around the East Coast turned up to compete in the Ngāti Porou Pā Wars.

As usual the event started with a parade of all the marae, with some having more members than others.

Waiparapara Marae from Tokomaru Bay had the most people.

More than 160 people from the area had come in support of their marae.

Some of the days favourite sports included volleyball right through to athletics.

The occasion was also a chance for a number of groups to fundraise at one of the biggest days on the East Coast calendar.

All the marae who gathered at today’s event are living by the saying, “to come together as one.”
