North Shore residents concerned over motorway toll fee proposal

North Shore residents are not happy with an Auckland Council transport proposal that may see a fee of $2 established for the use of the Auckland motorway network.

The proposed Motorway User Charge system is one of two options commissioned by the Auckland Council to address a $12 billion transport funding gap over the next 30 years.

If Auckland residents agree to the proposal it will mean, motorists using the Auckland motorway network will pay an average cost of $2 when entering the Auckland motorway system, however this may vary depending on the time of the day or day of the week and will be free at nights.

The toll fee system will be similar to the Northern Gateway Toll which identifies licence plate numbers using advanced cameras.  The cameras will be installed on gantries at every motorway on ramp.

Today Te Kāea spoke to residents in the North Shore to see what the mood was like on the matter.
