NZ dancers to open VMAs with Rihanna

Dancers from the New Zealand dance company The Royal Family have announced one of their most exciting opportunities to date. They'll strut their stuff next to pop sensation Rihanna at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Renowned choreographer Parris Goebel and her dancers have been busy with the release of Goebel’s first two singles “Friday” and “Nasty” but now their focus has shifted to one of the biggest nights in entertainment.

It seems doors keep opening for the talented individuals who have expressed their appreciation and excitement for their latest opportunity.

On Instagram, Goebel says, “Honoured to help create @badgalriri VMAS performance this year.” Goebel has also been nominated for 3 awards at the MTV VMAs.

Māori dancers Kaea Pearce and Kyraa Aoake are amongst those hand-selected to join the Barbados-born singer.

In an interview in November last year Pearce told the Online News Team, “My ultimate dream is to dance for Rihanna and my ultimate dream is to dance for Beyonce!”

The dancer was ecstatic to be given the chance to realise one of her dreams, thanking mentor and friend Parris Goebel and her mum for their unwavering support.

Aoake also posted to Instagram saying, “One of my biggest dreams coming true tonight! Can't wait to perform with @badgalriri at the VMAS tonight with my NZ girls.”

The VMAs will be a big night for Rihanna who, in addition to opening the show, will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. She has also been nominated in four categories including best female video, best male video and twice in best collaboration.
